If you ask Morgan or any of the children from the Bluegill room who their favorite class pet is, we guarantee they will overwhelmingly respond with “Speedy!” The loveable turtle has lived at EC3 for more than five years and provides a little break for the kids throughout the day as they can visit and chat with him. Speedy is an excellent conversation starter and provides lots of opportunity to talk about animals, their habitat, reptiles, what they eat, and nature. Pets like Speedy help calm the children down: coming over to talk to him is like their very own quiet reprieve sometimes. Even more–engaging in activity with a pet releases dopamine and serotonin in your brain, so Speedy truly brightens the children’s days!
Speedy enjoys a change of scenery from time to time, so if you have a big rock from your garden or perhaps some turtle toys, feel free to bring them to EC3! Turtle food makes a nice gift as well.
