Our summer camp children learned about the different senses animals use while they were at Fenner Nature Center this week. Each child was given a scent in a bottle to try, and then later tried to match scents that were on popsicle sticks just like animals do in the wild. Baby animals are given a leaf or food to smell and eat, and then they go out in the wild to find leaves or food that match that scent. The children also tasted some edible leaves that the experts at Fenner taught them about—of course the campers learned never to try any leaves or eat things from nature without an expert like a parent or teacher, but they had fun trying things like Bee Balm and Ginger Root. So much fun!
